These experiences helped instil a good work ethic and the spirit of sportsmanship in him from a very young age. Although he competes in professional events, bodybuilding events are not his full-time job. He is primarily a personal trainer. He has always believed in staying fit throughout the year and not just during competition periods. Although Lorenzo’s career has spanned over a decade, it was only recently that he won his IFBB Pro Card. As a result, he was eligible to participate as a professional bodybuilder in IFBB sanctioned bodybuilding competitions. His long time goal of becoming a professional bodybuilder took him several years and lots of sweat and sacrifice.
His first competition was the 2007 NPC Ronnie Coleman Class XI where he won 3rd place. He won his first amateur show at the 2008 NPC XII Annual Ronnie Coleman Classic.
Over the next few years, Lorenzo participated in several NPC shows. Some of his impressive results include a 1st place at the 2008 NPC Texas State Bodybuilding, 2009 NPC Europa, 2010 NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic, 2010 NPC 27th Annual Southern Classic Bodybuilding, 2010 NPC Junior USA Championships, 2010 NPC Branch Warren Bodybuilding Championships and a 2nd place finish at the 2010 NPC Texas State Championships.
Over the next couple of years, Lorenzo had a fair amount of success, with 1st place finishes at the 2012 and 2013 NPC Texas State Championships and a 2nd place finish at the 2011 NPC Europa Supershow, Dallas, and the 2012 NPC Ronnie Coleman Classic. The IFBB Pro Card, however, continued to evade him.
Finally, at the 2013 NPC National Championships, Lorenzo won 2nd place. He obtained his IFBB Pro Card and had finally achieved his dream of becoming a professional.
At his first professional event, the 2014 IFBB Europa Supershow, he finished in 6th place. At the 2014 IFBB Europa Phoenix, he only managed 16th place and at the 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength Texas Pro, only managed 8th place. Due to lacklustre results, Lorenzo decided to try his hand in the Classic Physique division. It proved to be an excellent decision. He won 3rd place at the 2016 IFBB San Antonio Pro and 1st place at the IFBB San Antonio Classic. He had thus qualified for the famed Mr. Olympia competition in 2017.
At the 2017 Mr. Olympia, Lorenzo placed 16th. Although it wasn’t a great result, he can be very proud of the fact that he was able to compete with the best competitors in the world on the biggest stage.
Maybe next year with a little more focus and effort, he can aim for a top 8 finish at the Olympia.
